New Use for Old Tyres
Golden Bay Cement

The Government has granted $13.6 million in support of an important recycling initiative to be implemented the Golden Bay Cement plant in Portland, Northland.

United Civil was chosen to complete the civil works on this $18.1m tyre recycling facility, which will use shredded tyres in the fuel mix to reduce the plant’s reliance on coal by 14 per cent.

Our extensive experience of working within an operational industrial facility, helped keep this project safely on-track.

Golden Bay Cement is the country’s fifth biggest carbon emitter and the substitution of rubber biofuel for coal will reduce those emissions by 13,000 tonnes per year, or the equivalent of 6000 cars.
